Edge Decoration

Faux Etching on the Vandercook
Rory Sparks, Visiting Artist
Sunday, February 25
10 am to 5 pm

Create beautiful prints with simple materials. Using Plexiglas plates, students will create faux etchings without chemicals. Scratching, scribing, sanding, piercing and cutting into the plate creates similar effects as traditional etching with surprising results. Students will be able to create several plates and will be encouraged to experiment with layering and multiple color prints. Students will complete a portfolio of prints to share.

The Art of the Box
Barbara Mauriello, Visiting Artist
Saturday and Sunday, March 31 and April 1
10 am to 5 pm

Boxes are all about material: use interesting materials and you will make interesting boxes. In this intensive weekend class, we will make two such boxes, both with feet, finials and sliding doors—all from an exuberant mix of patterned papers. The first box will be constructed of pre-cut parts. Each participant will cut materials for the second box to their desired dimensions. The basics of boxmaking—how to measure, cut, glue and cover; and the preparation and uses of adhesives—are as important as the design elements, and will be a focus of this class.
