From binding students’ writing projects to encouraging creative expression, book arts provide wonderful ways to reinforce learning. Workshop activities are geared to inspire classroom connections and applications, and teachers will create samples to keep for reference. Did you know you can earn Continuing Education Credits for ANY workshop at MCBA? Just let us know you are a teacher when you register, and we’ll prepare the documentation. OCTOBER 2008
Bookbinding for Preschoolers Teachers will explore bookbinding as a way of developing early childhood literacy and a lifelong love of books in our youngest students. The class will begin with a presentation of age-appropriate storybooks and activities that can be used to get children ready for making books. The bulk of our time will be spent creating basic M-fold, stick and whip-stitch books, and discussing and making variations of these three, such as simplified flag and donut books. Special attention will be paid to using materials and tools that are accessible, reusable and inexpensive. Teachers will have an opportunity to browse through commercially-, artist- and preschooler-made nontraditional books for more ideas. A handout and bibliography will be provided. $30 ($27 members) + $2 supply fee
