Suminagashi Paper Marbling Ages 9–12

with Rachel Payne
Thursday, October 17; 9am–12pm CT

Immerse yourself in suminagashi (“floating ink”) paper marbling! This in-person workshop includes the history of paper marbling across cultures—from its origins in 12th-century Japan and China to its development in Turkey to the present day—and detailed demonstrations of basic techniques and patterns. Come away with unique marbled paper that you can use to make cards, books, collage, and more!

This drop-off workshop is offered during MSP’s MEA break and designed for students ages 9–12. Consider registering for a Loft Literary Center workshop in the afternoon, World-Building—Create Your Own Fantasy or Sci Fi World for Grades 4–6, for a full day of visual and literary arts in Open Book! Students attending both workshops should bring lunch from home; Loft and MCBA staff will facilitate lunch and a brief field trip outside (weather permitting). Sign up for a spot here.

All skill levels welcome

$70/participant (10% discount for MCBA members) + $15 materials fee
$35 for BIPOC/Financial scholarship participants (10% discount for MCBA members) + $15 materials fee
MCBA offers two scholarship types for workshops—Financial Hardship Scholarships and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) Scholarships—to honor equity and increase access and artistic opportunities for those who have historically been underrepresented in the book arts. For individuals to whom these scholarships do not apply, register at the Adult rate and, if you are able, consider making a donation when registering to support MCBA’s efforts to make scholarships available.

Please note: Registration closes 10/14 at midnight (CT).
