Book Artist Badge

Join us in MCBA’s studios for a day of book arts and earn your Book Artist Badge!

Bind books, make paper, and print on a press at Book Artist Badge Day! Designed to fulfill the requirements of the Girl Scouts’ Book Artist Badge, this hands-on exploratory workshop is open to all girls and non-binary youth ages 10–18 interested in book arts.

How it Works

Visit MCBA’s studios for a half-day workshop and learn about the history of the book and contemporary book arts with professional teaching artists.

Groups of up to ten participants will rotate through MCBA’s studios where a teaching artist and parent volunteer will guide them through an activity lasting about 45 minutes. The event will finish with a self-guided activity in MCBA’s gallery and public spaces in Open Book.

Registration is required for all participants and includes the cost of materials.

$55/participant (10% discount for MCBA members), includes materials

Space is limited to 40 participants

We need about eight parents to volunteer at the event to guide individual groups from activity to activity and to assist each teaching artist. Caregivers interested in volunteering should reach out to Laura Brown (lbrown@mnbookarts.org) to share name, contact information, and connection(s) to participants.

Parents who do not sign up to volunteer are welcome to stay and enjoy the exhibition in the gallery, the Shop at MCBA, and the rest of Open Book. Any parents interested in participating in the day’s activities will need to register ahead of time.

Accessibility

MCBA uses an inclusive definition of the word “girl” and welcomes all girl-identifying, non-binary, and gender non-conforming youth to this event. Open Book has an elevator and accessible and gender-neutral bathrooms. Quiet space will be available for anyone needing a break from the hubbub of the studios.
