Book Artist Badge
Join us in MCBA’s studios for a day of book arts and earn your Book Artist Badge!
Bind books, make sheets of paper, print on a press, and more! Badge Day is designed to fulfill the requirements of the Girl Scouts Book Artist Badge and is open to all girls ages 10–18 interested in book arts.
How it Works
Groups of up to ten participants will rotate through MCBA’s bindery, print studio, and papermaking studio where a teaching artist and caregiver-volunteer will guide them through an activity (about 45 minutes each). The day will finish with time for lunch and a self-guided activity in MCBA’s gallery and Open Book.
Registration is required for all participants and includes the cost of materials. Please bring your own nut-free lunch.
Parents/caregivers are welcome to join in the experience as a volunteer studio assistant (we need one for each activity) or as a group guide (leading a group from activity to activity). Caregivers who are not volunteering are welcome to stay and enjoy the exhibition in the gallery, the Shop at MCBA, and other parts of Open Book.
If you are interested in volunteering or have any questions about Badge Day or MCBA’s studios, please email Laura Brown, Partnership Coordinator and Resident Instructor at lbrown@mnbookarts.org.
Accessibility
MCBA uses an inclusive definition of the word “girl” and welcomes all girl-identifying, non-binary, and gender non-conforming youth to this event. Open Book has an elevator and accessible and gender-neutral bathrooms. Quiet space will be available for anyone needing a break from the hubbub of the studios.
