Do-si-do (also dos-à-dos) binding is a structure that binds two separate text blocks with a shared back cover. This unique approach lends itself to thematic considerations that play with this theme of opposite-but-shared.
In this virtual workshop, learn the basics of a do-si-so structure with a pamphlet binding. After viewing a few samples of this binding, we will bind a mock-up together, brainstorm ideas to fill the pages, and discuss special considerations. We will also cover how to apply this structure to artist’s books and possibilities for hardcover bindings. Participants will leave the workshop with a blank do-si-do book structure to inspire their next project!
Level: Beginner. All skill levels are welcome.
Certificate: 3 hours, Category A or D
