Ditch the computer and come back to drawing by hand! This in-person workshop is designed for folks with basic screen printing experience who are ready to explore photo emulsion without relying on a computer or digital techniques.
We’ll start by preparing our positives entirely by hand. First, we’ll expose cut paper and rubylith to create a bold color field. Then, we’ll draw directly onto vellum with posca markers to create expressive linework. Together, these two handmade positives will become a two-color screenprint.
Everyone will leave with their own two-color print, plus a new set of techniques for translating drawings into screen printing positives at home or in MCBA’s Screen Print Labs. We’ll embrace the quirks of working by hand and enjoy the satisfying magic of watching a drawing become a print.
This is a chance to slow down, work with your hands, and discover just how much you can do without digital tools. No computer, no printer, no need to scan your drawings—just a pen, some film, a screen, and a little curiosity. Come ready to draw, experiment, and give your computer the afternoon off!
Level: Intermediate. Introductory screen printing experience is required for this fast-paced workshop, focused on experimentation and play.
Certificate: 3 hours, Category B or D
