In this in-person workshop, learn how to create repeating patterns and carve a linoleum block to print on fabric.
We will cover designing patterns, transferring drawings, carving soft rubber linocut, and printing with fabric ink on a thin cotton bandana. Participants may choose to bring reference material, stencils, or sketches for image-making, though plan on working with a simple one-color design.
This workshop specifically focuses on using a paper stencil to create a repeating pattern, then arranging the finished block in any number of formations to create an infinite repeat pattern. Participants will spend a brief amount of time planning their print, with the majority of the workshop spent carving and printing each impression on their bandana. Come away with a piece of wearable art, a block you can print again and again, and resources to continue block printing on fabric at home!
Register with a friend or loved one to explore a new process together or introduce them to block printing! The printed bandana makes a great gift. It can also be used as eco-friendly wrapping material or a decorative accessory.
