Digital Resources: Geometry and Illusion for Visual Artists

  • Posted In: Workshop, Virtual, Beginner, Design and Content
  • Saturdays: June 7, 14, 21; 9:30–10:30am CT

In this virtual workshop, we’ll dive into some cool tools—both digital and on paper—to create tessellations, anaglyphs, patterns, and origami templates.

We’ll also check out inspiring artists and ideas to prompt your creativity, and explore how to blend digital tools into your artwork. Whether you’re a printmaker, illustrator, or you just love making art, this is your chance to experiment and have fun with new techniques!

Level: Beginner. Basic computer skills and the ability to run design software (8GB of ram and free space on your hard drive) is required. If you already have Adobe Creative Suite or Affinity Suite, those will be helpful! If you don’t have design software yet, but your computer meets the criteria above, Camilo will introduce and share how to access many types of design software during the workshop.
    Certificate: 3 hours, Category B or D

    Pricing

$90/participant (10% discount for MCBA members)

$45 for BIPOC/Financial scholarship (10% discount for MCBA members)

MCBA offers two scholarship types for workshops—Financial Hardship Scholarships and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) Scholarships—to honor equity and increase access and artistic opportunities for those who have historically been underrepresented in the book arts. For individuals to whom these scholarships do not apply, register at the Adult rate and, if you are able, consider making a donation when registering to support MCBA’s efforts to make scholarships available.

    What you'll need to participate

Tech requirements: For this participatory virtual workshop we recommend joining on a laptop or desktop computer with a camera and microphone, if possible. You will receive step-by-step instructions for downloading Zoom (it’s free!) and accessing the workshop online approximately 2 days before the workshop’s start date.

Materials: You are responsible for sourcing your own materials from the materials list. You are welcome to reach out to teaching artists with questions about materials in advance of the workshop (contact information is listed on the materials list).

Please note: Registration closes 6/2 at midnight (CT).
