Handmade Book: Materials & Techniques

  • Minnesota Center for Book Arts 1011 South Washington Avenue #100 Minneapolis, MN, 55415 United States (map)

Thursdays: February 19, 26, March 5; 6-9 PM

Learn to sew a two-color silk headband, make custom book cloth from any fabric, and color a book edge with gouache.

These special touches elevate hand-bound books, build hand binding skills, and open new design possibilities. We will take advantage of specialized equipment in MCBA's bindery for edge decoration. Come away with a strong foundation in these bookbinding techniques and the skills needed to continue practicing them in MCBA’s Bookbinding Labs.

Level: Beginner. All skill levels are welcome. Binding is a technical process involving threading needles for sewing, replicating multiple steps after a demonstration, and measuring small increments. All abilities are welcome to participate in whatever ways feel safe and comfortable.
Certificate: 9 hours, Category B or C
