Ideation Through Collage

  • Minnesota Center for Book Arts 1011 South Washington Avenue #100 Minneapolis, MN, 55415 United States (map)
  • Posted In: Workshop, In-Person, Beginner, Design and Content
  • Thursday, June 12; 6–9pm CT

In this in-person workshop, failure is celebrated, dialogue sparks innovation, and the goal is to disrupt typical ideation patterns.

We will make more and evaluate less. Inspired by prompts, create experimental 2D imagery that allows you to embrace imperfection while making intuitive collage pieces quickly.

First, we will focus on quick, intuitive image-making with collage by providing prompts that broaden presumptions of how collages can be constructed. These prompts are designed to loosen the expectations of perfection and encourage discovery. After generating a series of collages, we will slow down and apply what we've learned in making those earlier collages to create new ones and rework those that feel incomplete.

You are encouraged to bring your own ephemera to use in your collage work. Found materials including marbled or handmade paper, photographs, nature, and test prints are welcome.

Level: Beginner. All skill levels are welcome.
    Certificate: 3 hours, Category A or D
