Birds Poem Print by María José Castillo

from $10.00

A print of two birds surrounded by the twisting, turning words of a poem. Available in two sizes.

"There had been no song for quite some time, until a mid-fall day it reached me: its twiddle carried something broken on its core. I could not see it, but I could hear it fainting as it flew away. Its chant was a sorrowful goodbye, an ode to the delightful by short-lived spring, and the sun-drenched summer. A chill breeze swept me up and kicked me off balance.

'So long', as silence surrounded me whole. In my mind I hear the names only the both of us know. Winter storms in and drags up its share of stories with new faces as time, unfazed, is locked on its forward motion. We will catch up, fall back. The flowers will come up anyways, but it doesn't make it less piercing." -María José Castillo

Large - 12" x 16"

Small - 6.25" x 8.25"

María José Castillo (they/them & she/her) is a graphic designer and visual artist with a body of work that feeds off of their curiosity with language and communication. Their conceptual approach incorporates the analysis of cultural background related to the way we read the written word, not only as a functional element in a discourse, but also as an object existing in a spatial field. María José’s work is heavy on formal exploration of type and shape, with a particular emphasis on how type, layout, and color affect the way a message is read. They also dive deep in a quirky and colorful universe with their illustration work, often accompanied by lettering exploration.
