She Ran Artist's Book by Ainslee Beery

She ran is a laser engraved flipbook that was inspired by a sentence I read in a Ray Bradbury novel. I altered the sentence for my purposes, and it is the text etched on the first page of the book. The book consists of 8 consecutive laser engraved images of a girl running. Each image is lighter than the image that precedes it, suggesting that as she seemingly runs in place, she runs away.” -Ainslee Beery

Ainslee Beery (she/her) is a multimedia artist who has returned to Minneapolis after an adult lifetime of living elsewhere. Most recently, her artwork has taken form as screen prints, books, and other objects. Her art practice involves experimentation with objects, language and processes of production to communicate meaning. Much of the work she produces originates from her attraction to outdated and/or insignificant objects, often plastic, that are a kind of cultural litter of (mostly American) capitalism, such as gumball machine rings, cheap souvenirs, and Monopoly pieces. Her manipulations, often laced with humor, expose the gray area and rough edges between desire and disdain. Rather than being prescriptive, her use of language, often idioms and other common phrases, is used to alter and/or blur cultural associations. She is committed to making artwork that questions and disrupts assumptions about how we ourselves in relation to the world around us.
