Thursdays: May 8, 15, 22; 6–9pm CT
This intermediate, in-person workshop will explore two related techniques for repairing hardcover, cloth books.
The spine mount attempts to preserve as much of the original book cover as possible, while the full recase replaces the entire book cover with new cloth and boards. Learn the process for replacing end sheets, how to evaluate paper condition, and when paper won’t withstand rebinding. Discussion will include how to label and stamp newly rebound books and how to create simple, hand-lettered labels for the books we rebind. Bring along three or four hardcover books that you think would benefit from new or restored covers. We may or may not repair the books you bring to the workshop, but everyone will get plenty of hands-on experience to give you the skills and confidence needed for future book repair projects
Level: Intermediate. Some binding and book repair experience is helpful.
Certificate: 9 hours, Category B, C, or D
