Box Building for Beginners

  • Posted In: Workshop, Virtual, Beginner, Binding and Box Making
  • Tuesdays: May 6, 13, 20, 27; 7–9pm CT

Building boxes with high-density board, often called “book board,” is a time-honored tradition within book arts.

Hand-built boxes serve many functions, from holding tools to preserving fragile books. Participants will learn the basics of box building while creating two unique boxes with lids. This virtual workshop is perfect for anyone new to book arts who would like to learn something a little different.

Level: Beginner. All skill levels welcome.
    Certificate: 8 hours, Category A, B or D

    Pricing

$208/participant (10% discount for MCBA members) + $40 materials fee*

$104 for BIPOC/Financial scholarship participants (10% discount for MCBA members) + $40 materials fee*

MCBA offers two scholarship types for workshops—Financial Hardship Scholarships and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) Scholarships—to honor equity and increase access and artistic opportunities for those who have historically been underrepresented in the book arts. For individuals to whom these scholarships do not apply, register at the Adult rate and, if you are able, consider making a donation when registering to support MCBA’s efforts to make scholarships available.
