Tuesdays: April 7, 14, 21; 7–9pm CT
In this virtual workshop, learn a generative approach to collage-making that will help you explore your creative voice and learn to recognize patterns and connections in your work.
First, we’ll explore ways to sift out key ingredients by studying our own art and other artists’ work. Our search for “ingredients” may include recurring colors, textures, materials, shapes, or other elements. Next, we’ll experiment with different “recipes,” using our gathered ingredients. We will mix and match the ingredients to discover new combinations while creating work with a similar aesthetic. Working with restricted materials can be a freeing and inspiring approach to art making.
The exercises learned in this workshop can be applied to other mediums and replicated any number of times as your aesthetics evolve over time or when you feel stuck.
Participants will engage in guided practice with opportunities to troubleshoot, ask questions, and get feedback while experimenting. Come away with works in progress and the know-how to keep making collages on your own!
Level: Beginner. Some experience with collage is useful, though skills will be applicable to anyone with a regular practice in other visual mediums.
Certificate: 6 hours, Category A or D
