Luminaria: Winter Lanterns

  • Minnesota Center for Book Arts 1011 South Washington Avenue #100 Minneapolis, MN, 55415 United States (map)

Thursdays: January 8 & 15; 6–9pm CT

During short winter days, the warm glow of a festive luminaria can cut through the darkness that surrounds us. Make handmade paper luminarias with watermarks and paper-cut designs in this in-person workshop.

Create some light! These lanterns are perfect for decorating your home or to give away.

Please bring sketches of inspiration for your designs. Wear clothing that can get dirty and shoes that can get wet (i.e. rubber boots, garden clogs, etc.). Participants need to return to pick up their paper on Saturday, 1/17, or later in The Shop at MCBA to allow the wet sheets of paper time to dry.

This workshop introduces participants to the papermaking process. Participation in European Papermaking is needed in order to attend Papermaking Labs to make paper independently in MCBA’s studios.

Please note that papermaking is a wet and physical process that involves repeated lifting and bending. Accommodations can be made for individuals with specific needs (please share these when registering) and we encourage all abilities to participate in ways that feel safe and comfortable.

Level: Beginner. All skill levels are welcome.
Certificate: 6 hours, Category B or D
