Thursday, May 15; 6–9pm CT
Immerse yourself in the oldest form of marbling, Suminagashi 墨流し (“spilled or floating ink”).
In this one-day in-person workshop, we will explore the materials, techniques, and history of this art before spending most of the workshop practicing this meditative art. We will play with paper and tools; feel free to bring in your own. This art form is a great way to practice meditation as it is all about exploring the different variations of repetitive movement. Everyone will go home with a set of notecards.
Participants may need to return to pick up their paper on Saturday, 5/24 or later in The Shop at MCBA to allow the wet sheets of paper time to dry.
Level: Beginner. All skill levels are welcome.
Certificate: 3 hours, Category A or D

MCBA offers two scholarship types for workshops—Financial Hardship Scholarships and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) Scholarships—to honor equity and increase access and artistic opportunities for those who have historically been underrepresented in the book arts. For individuals to whom these scholarships do not apply, register at the Adult rate and, if you are able, consider making a donation when registering to support MCBA’s efforts to make scholarships available.
