Quotes from activists and scholars, along with original writing, accompany collages exploring the military industrial complex's role in ecological destruction. Climate catastrophe and antidemocracy escalate worldwide, with war playing one of the largest roles in environmental destruction. War, extractive capitalism, and environmental racism hurt the world just as much as the people on it. Artists have a responsibility to respond to the world around us, and Business is Booming! is my response to escalating militarized violence, destruction of public lands, and economic inequality. Business is Booming! is dedicated to the incredibly articulate scholars, activists, and scientists who have spent their careers blowing the whistle on how global political and economic systems damage the world. The book is made from handmade recycled paper and post-consumer magazine pages, bound with reclaimed plastic shopping bags.” - Luke Mars

Luke Mars (he/it) is a queer cartoonist and book artist working out of Minneapolis, MN. His work focuses on a range of topics from Satanism to environmentalism to trash television. Motivated by the feminist belief that the personal is political, Mars’ work explores how the little, mundane things around us reflect bigger, more universal issues. His work combines mediums including printmaking, poetry, and comic arts to create work that is sentimental and observation-based. When not working, Luke enjoys going to punk shows, watching pro wrestling, and attending local zine fests.
