“‘Script Flow Free’ is a short story about passing knowledge from one generation to the next.

The original short story was written, in May of 2020, right as the pandemic sent all of us into distance learning. One day I had the idea to layer a slowed down piano cover of a song over one of my teacher’s lectures. A friend said it sounded like a ‘dramatic monologue in a movie.’ And so I was inspired to write a ‘script’ for an imaginary film.

The story has been rewritten and formatted for this small book as a part of my Artists’ Books class. It is accompanied by several patterned block prints.” - Alex Stoner

Alex Stoner (he/they) is a sophomore at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, primarily focusing on printmaking, photography, and mixed media, with an interest in film as well. Searching for the story beneath the project, Alex observes the underlying narratives of past experiences to compose his work. By picking up the scattered pieces of a composition, and weaving them together into a continuous story, he brings touching emotion to his art. Recently, he has been exploring ideas regarding patterns, as well as writing and bookmaking.
