Elaisha Hilliard (she/her) is a Detroit-based artist, specializing in painting and relief printing. Within her work, one can find a range of familiar imagery in the form of portraits, “ads,” still life, and patterns. Her pieces often feature subtle references to the minimalist, pop art and art nouveau movements, while being introduced to her modern vision on how the subjects therein should be portrayed. At the center of Elaisha’s work you will find a tribute to black women, who she views as both her muses and her target audience. She often places her subjects in environments, advertisements, clothing and media drawn from the 1950s and 1960s eras, a time where the world didn't have the opportunity to see brown-skinned subjects captured taking part of all the pleasant aspects of that time.
