Scripps College Press, located at Scripps College in Claremont, California, is a teaching press focused on letterpress printing, book arts, and collaborative publishing. Under the direction of Professor Tia Blassingame—an accomplished book artist and scholar whose work explores race, history, and identity—the Press offers students a hands-on, interdisciplinary experience in designing, writing, printing, and binding limited-edition artist books. Since its founding in 1941, the Press has provided a space where traditional craft meets contemporary themes, with students producing finely crafted books that are collected by institutions and libraries worldwide. Professor Blassingame’s leadership has further deepened the Press’s engagement with social justice and the histories of underrepresented communities, expanding its role as both a pedagogical and artistic hub. Through this immersive studio-based program, Scripps College Press fosters artistic exploration, critical thinking, and collaboration, continuing its legacy as a unique and vital contributor to the field of book arts.
