where we're stuck Artist's Book by Jourdan Lewanda
“‘where we’re stuck’ is a humble three hole pamphlet with two juxtaposed texts: Tarjei Vesaas’ ‘The Loons Head North’ (‘Lomen går mot nord’) and select lines from a September 2024 journal entry after a weekend away camping with a new boyfriend.
The first stanza of each text is exposed sans cover, and the reader will immediately notice that the works cannot be read in tandem as the text of one is in the opposite vertical alignment of the other. In dim lighting, the physical impression of the text on the back of the page is visible, while in brighter light the thinness of the paper allows for bleeding of the text on the front and back of the same page, and the two worlds exist in even more obvious dissonance.
Musings on connection, each text finds intimacy in the natural world and in the uncontrollable other while remaining isolated in its own view. Longing side by side but never truly in conversation, ‘where we’re stuck’ explores the vulnerability and hope in the idea of love and fate, and our place within in it.” -Jourdan Lewanda

Jourdan Lewanda (she/her) is an actor and visual artist based in Chicago. Her collages have been featured in Feels Zine, Hndl Mag, the Plum Creek Review, and elsewhere, and her mail art has been sent to homes all around the world. Her artist books, due to their largely autobiographical nature, have thus far been hidden away in a box in her studio or gifted to loved ones. As an actor, she was most recently in the 2025 Helen Hayes nominated "Prayer for the French Republic" at Theater J in Washington, DC. Through it all is an adoration for the human experience, and the attempt to live and express it deeply and gently.
