Let’s explore collage through Artist Trading Cards! Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) are small two-dimensional works of art about the size of a playing card.
Originating as part of a conceptual art show in the late 90s, they have historical connection to mail art and miniature art. Meant to be traded but never sold, they are an opportunity for artists to share their work in a non-commercial form. With the rise in popularity of collage, ATCs are an excellent way to meet other artists, experiment, and explore a variety of techniques.
In this virtual workshop, we will start with an introduction to basic approaches to collage, using examples, demonstrations, and tips and tricks for this format. Using easily obtained materials, we will focus on working in batches, on several pieces at once, to emphasize working quickly and solving compositional puzzles in a number of ways. There will be time to work, always with options to work quietly or socialize. Sharing will be encouraged, with the option to exchange cards by mail.
Level: Beginner. All skill levels are welcome.
Certificate: 3 hours, Category B or D
