In this in-person workshop, you'll discover hand-lettering techniques through a guided approach to drawing letters and short words, and walk away with a poster featuring your own lettering alphabet or your favorite letter!
What is hand-lettering? Put simply, it's the art of drawing letters and words, rather than writing them. Since you don’t need much to get started, there are so many approaches and styles to explore—which means there are many applications for it, too!
Instruction will begin with an introduction to hand-lettering and what you need to get started. We’ll explore how hand-lettering is like and unlike calligraphy and type. Next, we'll dive into the basics of what makes a letter and techniques to approach drawing letters. Throughout the workshop, we'll spend time using worksheet-guided exercises to get you thinking about letters in a new way and build comfort experimenting and exploring ways to bend the rules of type.
The workshop will round out with guided practice time where you'll work on your own lettering alphabet poster! You will leave with the knowledge and tools needed to continue hand-lettering on your own.
Level: Beginner. All skill levels are welcome.
