Laila Nahar (she/her) is a lens-based artist and bookmaker in California. Her work explores belonging, memory, cultural and collective identity. Her handmade photo artist books are in permanent collections of Harvard Fine Arts Library, Countway Library/Harvard Medical School, Museum of Fine Arts/Houston, Bainbridge Museum of Arts, Fleet Library/RISD, Boatwright Memorial Library, SMFA at TUFTs University/Tisch Library, Los Angeles Public Library Special Collections, University of Colorado/Boulder, Baylor University and Claremont College Scripps/E S Denison Library. Her books won several awards and appeared in exhibitions including Griffin Museum of Photography, Photobookjournal, Candela Photographic Art, Lucie Photo Book Prize Independent Category, DUMMY AWARD24 Shortlist, Athens Photo Festival APhF:24 & 26 Finalist, FotoEvidence W Award Finalist’25. Attended CODEX 2024 and 2026. Laila is the handmade artist book editor of Lenscratch.com.
