In this virtual workshop, experiment with a variety of approaches to using collage as a quick and fun way to generate ideas, make visual notes, and enhance your creative practice.
Beginning with an introduction to the basics of collage, we will develop and test compositions, color, and layering. Expect to fill your spiral notebook pages with quick, playful ideas and mixed media processes. Come away with lots of ideas and the beginnings of a practice in sketchbook collage.
Level: Beginner. Open to all levels of experience–exercises will challenge those new to collage and lifelong artists alike.

Scholarships are available for individuals facing adversity as it relates to identity, income/wealth, and lack of access to arts resources. The Pay-It-Forward rate (tuition, plus 50%) supports MCBA’s efforts to make scholarships available. We leave it to you to choose the rate that is meaningful to you based on your income, wealth, and privilege status. MCBA members receive a 10% discount on tuition.
What you'll need to participate
Tech requirements: For this participatory virtual workshop, we recommend joining on a laptop or desktop computer with a camera, microphone, and strong internet connection. You will receive step-by-step instructions for downloading Zoom (it’s free!) and accessing the workshop online approximately 2 days before the workshop’s start date.
Materials: You are responsible for sourcing your own materials from the materials list. You are welcome to reach out to teaching artists with questions about materials in advance of the workshop (contact information is listed on the materials list).
