Wednesday, October 14; 7–9pm CT
In this virtual workshop, we’ll take a detailed look at the various financial parts of making and publishing artists’ books, including budgeting, tracking costs, pricing, and funding.
Designed to demystify the often hidden administrative and social labor costs of making artists’ books, this workshop will help you establish a process for exploring the following questions, tailored to your own practice and projects:
How much does it cost to make an artist’s book or a zine?
How many copies should you make?
How do you figure out a price for your work?
How do you split profits between collaborators?
How do you take your own labor into account?
The workshop will consist of short presentations, followed by discussion and questions. We will use free, online tools (Google Docs and Sheets) to keep everything organized and to learn how to customize templates for each individual’s or project’s specific needs.
This workshop is part of a three-part series that can be taken sequentially, out-of-order, or as independent workshops. The other two workshops in the series are Collaborative Publishing as an Artistic Practice and Selling and Distributing Your Artist's Books.
Level: Beginner. This workshop is suitable for beginners who have yet to make a book and for practicing artists who want to learn more about budgeting and pricing.
Certificate: 2 hours, Category C
