Selling and Distributing Your Artist's Books

Wednesday, October 21; 7–9pm CT

Designed to demystify the often hidden administrative and social labor costs of making artists’ books, this virtual workshop will take an in-depth look at the different aspects of selling and distributing artists’ books and zines: audience, promotion, book and zine fairs, working with stores, selling to libraries, etc.

We’ll explore the advantages and disadvantages of different distribution methods, the question of audience, and how to get your artist’s books out of your studio and into your readers' hands. The workshop will consist of short presentations, followed by discussion and questions. The goal is for each participant to build a general distribution plan that can then be adapted to fit the needs of future projects.

This workshop is part of a three-part series that can be taken sequentially, out-of-order, or as independent workshops. The other two workshops in the series are Collaborative Publishing as an Artistic Practice and Budgeting and Pricing Your Artist's Books.

Level: Beginner. This workshop is suitable for beginners who have yet to make a book and for practicing artists who want to learn more about distribution and sales.
Certificate: 2 hours, Category C
